hawke for the latter information.
on the topic of glastonbury, banco de gaia will play this
year's festival on june 26. their current live set is video-based so bound
to be both an audio and visual treat! they are playing many gigs in the
u.k. for the rest of this month, then a gig in russia and hungary in june
before glastonbury. then it's off to the czech republic, belgium, and back
to hungary in july. refer to banco's official

on the music front, toby banks has teamed up with jamie
hickey under

for a
forthcoming compilation the abduction of the art of noise on

october 31. also playing on this date will be simon emmerson of afro-celt
sound system and temple hedz. he will then dj at sona in montreal,
canada on november 29 before doing a full live show, complete with new

the new year with banco? no problem - he'll be doing a live set at the
immortal whirl-y-gig on december 31 in london. no visuals for that

banco de gaia's latest release, the compilation 10 years, is
now out world-wide. reflecting on the last 10 years it is mixed by banco
de gaia and can be ordered at amazon
in the u.k, and amazon
or cd
now in the u.s.
this is also a great opportunity to see banco de gaia live
in the u.k. or dj'ing in the u.s.. they have already played portsmouth,
glastonbury, and london and will soon play other u.k. shows in salisbury (oct
10th), derby (13th), northampton (17th), kendel (18th), and manchester
(19th). my review of the london gig is in the reviews
section.

banco de gaia's next release, the compilation 10 years, has
been finalised with a handful of promos being released. one has
unfortunately popped up on ebay,
much to banco de gaia's grief, but which has allowed the track listing to
be leaked. it is in the discography. i hope to get my hands on a copy soon
and will give thoughts on it as soon as possible.

the site has been totally re-designed to look a lot more 21st century!
all the old content still exists, with things like the discography having
more and larger covers to look at. the frequently asked questions (faq)
document has been added, as have ads and pictures of banco de gaia. enjoy!

confirmation has now
come from banco de gaia that the first two studio albums, maya, and last
train to lhasa, will be out in the u.s. on may 14, and in europe on May
20. they will be available on cd only, and it is expected that it will be the
2cd version of last train to lhasa
and not the limited edition 3cd version. live at glastonbury and big
men cry will be available via mail order on the official
site next week, with a store release later in 2002. people looking for
vinyl versions of the old albums may also have luck at the official site.
the compilation of ten years of banco de gaia's work is ongoing, and is now due for release in September.
i can
reveal that one of the cds will be uptempo, and the other downtempo. the
compilation will be mixed and feature a collection of album material, rare
remixes, and obscure tracks. Some material from before maya is
possible.
18
the
long-running battle for banco de daia to regain rights to albums already
released on another record label appear to be drawing to an end. despite
many rumours in the past, a good source tells me that may 2001 could finally
see his previous material ready for distribution. stay tuned!
banco de gaia has also announced that a
double cd compilation is due in the northern hemisphere's summer. it is
aimed to be a 10 year retrospective. a track listing is not currently
available.

i have finally had a
chance to listen to a new banco track, sakarya, which appears on the
6 degrees compilation arabian travels (it's available
from cd
now and amazon in the
u.s., and now also available from amazon
in the u.k.). by banco de daia's standards this is a fairly upbeat and funky
track full of percussion. as per usual toby brews a magical blend of of
instruments, sound effects, and uplifting chants. highly recommended!

the second single from igizeh,
entitled how much reality can you take?, came out in the u.k. as a

banco de gaia, it is not planned to come out on cd or elsewhere in the
world.
a new banco track, sakarya, recently
appeared on the 6 degrees compilation arabian travels. it was written
at the start of 2001. released around september 18, the cd is
available from cd

u.s.. toby has also remixed the track smoke gets in your eyes. An older
track not written by himself, it appears on a compilation called electrolounge
2. i've yet to see it at online cd stores.
toby may finally be releasing his past
commercial albums, from maya onwards. stay tuned. there is also talk
of box sets and the like.

banco de gaia's new
album, igizeh, is due out in europe tomorrow and the u.s. on tuesday.
my review of the album is now available. you can also hear snippets from the
album at banco de gaia's official site, and buy the album from the u.s. via cd now or amazon, or in the u.k. via amazon. expect final details of the first single, obsidian, soon.
12
the official banco de gaia web site now has a new
look & feel plus sound bits from the new album, igizeh, and
details of tour dates in october.
04
the igizeh
review is still in the process of being written while i undertake further
research. sorry! i have learnt that the vocalist from the album, jennifer
folker, is someone banco de gaia met in portland last year. the most
commercial-sounding track on the album, obisidian, which features
folker's vocals will be the first single. it will feature remixes by fluke
and the light. hopefully the official web site will have sound bites for you
to listen to soon.
to make up for my later-than-expected
review of igizeh i've created a review of an older banco de gaia
single, heliopolis, to (hopefully) keep you happy. it's in the
reviews section. current word is that banco de gaia will be doing some live
dates in london around october 26-28. venues, etc. not yet
known.

full details of banco
de gaia's new album, igizeh, are now in the discography. as is usual
with banco de gaia releases expect a blend of the expected and not so
expected! igizeh features vocals on two tracks, including glove
puppet which was released on his previous album. my review will be
posted here very soon. the album is released world-wide on september
26.
banco's next live date is doing a chill-out dj set for the 12th off
the tracks festival in the u.k. on september 1. he also plans other
dates in the u.k. in october.
26
the new album is
listed on cd now and amazon to be released in the u.s. on september 26 2000. the
cover art is also visible at six degree
records. i will have full details of the album, including a
review of its music, very soon.

the new album from banco de gaia is to be titled igizeh. the title has no known meaning.
expect it to be available world-wide at the end of september. to date the
only track available from it is b2 which appears on the six degree
records compilation called traveler '00.
10
after playing around
with the idea for months i have finally designed and written a web site
about banco de gaia/toby marks. it wouldn't have been possible without
toby's help. it's great to see a brilliant artist so heavily involved with
the internet and interacting with its members. so thanks mate!
latest news is that a new album is due out
later this year. a track from the album, b2, is currently available
on a compilation called traveler
'00.
